Celebrating 30 years

Although Stamford & District Lions haven't always organised the festival, we would like to remember and thank those who started it and organised it for many years before us.

Our chosen Charity Group this year is

Stamford Men's Shed

Men's Sheds are spaces where men can get together to socialise while learning and sharing practical skills for the benefit of the Shed and the wider community.  Many men can become socially isolated as a result of bereavement, retirement, redundancy or simply as a result of moving to a new location.  They can struggle to meet new people and often the only place they do meet others is in the pub which can lead to depression etc.

Sheds provide a safe space to meet and talk in a non-formal environment.  Stamford Shed aims to be that space here.

The shedders are looking to learn wood and metal working, 3D printing and electronics so we would love to have our own workspace in town.  Consequently we are embarking on a fundraising campaign over the next few weeks to raise some of the money towards it.  We are looking forward to working alongside other community groups in the town and maybe even have a small repair shop.

In the few weeks we have been meeting, friendships have been made and interests shared.

Every penny placed in our donation boxes will go to this worthwhile group who are helping men talk, make new friendships and gain confidence by bringing them out of isolation.
